Does your portfolio fit your view of where the world is heading?

Last updated · By StockDashes

StockDashes checks exactly that. You choose up to 4 investment themes — from a list such as AI build-out or ageing populations, or written in your own words — and every holding in your portfolio is marked as benefiting from, hurt by, neutral to or mixed on each one, with a one-line reason. Weighted by what each holding is worth, that shows how much of your money sits with your view and how much against it; and it is 60% of your 0–100 portfolio score.

What a theme is

A theme is a view about where the world is heading that moves company results: a build-out of AI infrastructure, ageing populations, interest rates that stay higher for longer. You pick the ones you believe in; the check is how your actual holdings line up with them.

Themes you can pick from

  • AI build-out
  • Currency debasement & hard assets
  • K-shaped economy
  • Geopolitical instability & rearmament
  • Humanoid robotics & automation
  • Energy transition & electrification
  • Ageing populations & healthcare
  • Deglobalisation & reshoring
  • Higher-for-longer interest rates
  • Rise of the emerging-market consumer

Writing your own

Not on the list? Write your view in your own words — up to 1,500 characters, for example “Europe rearms for a decade and energy stays expensive”. It is turned into one or more themes, each with a name and a short description you can edit; a view that matches a theme on the list comes back as that theme rather than a near-duplicate. You keep up to 4 themes at a time, picked and written ones together.

The verdict, holding by holding

Benefits

The theme playing out helps the company’s results.

Hurt

The theme playing out works against them.

Neutral

The theme doesn’t move them much either way.

Mixed

Two real forces pull in opposite directions; it counts half each way.

Each verdict comes with a one-line reason you can open. Change a theme and its verdicts are worked out again. Then each theme gets a bar: the share of your portfolio’s value that benefits, is hurt, is neutral — and any part not yet marked, shown as such rather than spread over the rest.

An example

In the fictional example portfolio, 59% of the value benefits from AI build-out, 5% is hurt and 36% is neutral. NVDA, MSFT, ASML and AMZN are marked Benefits; GOOGL is Mixed, which is where the hurt share comes from. Those holdings tend to move together, so most of that exposure is one bet. The bars below are the same component the app uses, fed with that example and its 4 themes.

AI build-outby market value
Benefits 59%Hurt 5%Neutral 36%
4 holdings benefit · 1 mixed · 0 hurt
Currency debasement & hard assetsby market value
Benefits 11%Hurt 4%Neutral 85%
1 holding benefits · 1 mixed · 0 hurt
Geopolitical instability & rearmamentby market value
Benefits 21%Hurt 21%Neutral 58%
2 holdings benefit · 1 mixed · 1 hurt
K-shaped economyby market value
Benefits 22%Hurt 5%Neutral 73%
2 holdings benefit · 1 mixed · 0 hurt

Mixed counts as half benefit, half hurt in the bars.

Where your portfolio and your view disagree

Three situations are called out on the score card. A conflict: holdings marked Hurt by a theme you chose make up a quarter or more of your portfolio. Mixed: holdings that both gain and lose from a theme make up a quarter or more — named as mixed, never counted as hurt. A gap: a theme you chose is linked to 10% or less of it — you believe in it, but your money isn’t there.

What it doesn’t do

  • It doesn’t say whether a view is right. You choose the themes; the check is only how your holdings line up with them.
  • It doesn’t tell you what to trade, or when.

What you need

  • An account: you sign in, and your portfolio stays private to it.
  • Your holdings: import your broker’s export — DEGIRO, Saxo and others — or type them in.
  • Your themes: up to 4, picked from the list or written in your own words.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a tool that checks whether my portfolio fits my view of where the world is heading?

Yes. In StockDashes you choose up to 4 investment themes, from a list or in your own words, and every holding is marked as benefiting from, hurt by, neutral to or mixed on each one. You see how much of your portfolio’s value sits on each side, theme by theme.

Can I write my own theme?

Yes. Describe your view in your own words, up to 1,500 characters, and it is turned into themes with a name and a description you can edit.

How is each holding judged against a theme?

Each holding gets one of four verdicts per theme — Benefits, Hurt, Neutral or Mixed — with a one-line reason. The verdicts are weighted by what each holding is worth, so a large position counts more than a small one.

How does this affect my portfolio score?

Fit with your themes is 60% of the 0–100 score; diversification and volatility are the rest. A portfolio that mostly benefits from your themes scores high on fit, one that is mostly neutral lands around the middle.

Does it tell me what to trade?

No. It shows how your portfolio lines up with the views you chose; it never says what to trade or when.

Which holdings can it mark?

Holdings listed in the US, and European shares that also trade in the US. Other European listings and UCITS ETFs are shown by name and left out, and the app says so.
